Tattoo Removal and the Sun

Protecting the skin from the harmful effects of the sun during all four seasons is very important, and even more so while getting laser tattoo removal.  Tanning during the course of treatments can increase your risk of either hyper- or hypo-pigmentation, or even the development of scar tissue.

We recommend physically covering the treated area when out in the sun (duck tape works like a charm, as do Hyde Ink tattoo covers) but sunscreen with an SPF 75+ with broad spectrum protection works pretty well too.  For an explanation of what that broad spectrum protection does, see below from Dr. Lawrence Gibson, MD at the Mayo Clinic:

"There are two types of UV light that can harm your skin — UVA and UVB. A broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen is designed to protect you from both.

UVA rays can penetrate deeply into your skin and suppress your immune system. This increases the risk of wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to both UVA and UVB rays raises your risk of skin tumors, including a form of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. The best sunscreen offers protection from all UV light."

Tattoo Prevention and the Obamas?

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decided you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo in the same place. And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo,” Obama said. “And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel.”

Radiation Tattoo Removal for BCA Month!

During chemotherapy for breast cancer, some women get a radiation tattoo to mark exactly where on their chest the procedure should take place. Usually done with regular tattoo ink and a slender needle, we can remove these, and do it for free as our way to support those who have survived breast cancer not just during this month but over the whole year.

Click the link for more information on radiation tattoos, and/or give us a call for more information or to set up your first complimentary removal appointment!

Tattoo Removal and the Marines

We hear a lot of different reports here at TRS regarding what tattoos are and are not allowed for people that are enlisting.  Here is a handy-dandy "Ask a Marine" video for where the Marines stand.  We've got no comment as far as which branch is the strictest, but have heard everything from tattoos are fine as long as they're not on the neck nor offensive to no tattoos allowed at all.

For people wanting to enlist, we recommend an aggressive treatment style that will get that tattoo off sooner than later.  Anyone out there have a tried and true rule when it comes to admissible tattoos and the military?

When Parents Get Their Tattoos Removed...

Check out this great blog entry on a parent (in this case, a famous one) removing their tattoos so that their kids wont get 'em from the folks at Blink Tattoo Removal.  Here at TRS, we run into this reasoning all the time and in fact, sometimes parents will bring their kids in with them (if they're olde nough to handle it) so that they'll think long and hard before getting inked themselves!

"Mark Wahlberg Removes Tattoos to Set Good Example for His Kids" from Blink Tattoo Removal (link above)

"We recently had a post about parents considering laser tattoo removal for their children’s sake. Many parents feel that their tattoo is no longer a reflection of who they are today, especially after becoming parents. They want to set the best example for their kids and feel that removing their tattoo is a step in the right direction.
Family man, Mark Wahlberg, who stars in the new film Contraband, was recently on David Letterman explaining this exact scenario. Wahlberg stated; “I have a lot of tattoos and I’m having them all removed.” When the “Today” show asked the reason behind the tattoo removal, Wahlberg explained that while removing the tattoo is not always the most pleasant experience he, “doesn’t want to set a bad example for his kids.” While this Oscar nominated actor continues to make blockbuster films he is adamant that the most important role he plays in life is being a husband and father. He stated on the “Today” show,  “If I succeed as a business man but fail as a father than it has all been for nothing...”

An Extreme Case

Removing facial tattoos is a delicate and sometimes painful process.  Pain management is of utmost importance to us here at TRS, and, in general, it doesn't hurt (ha) to have clients that are as dedicated to the process as Bryon Widner and his wife Julie - former white supremacists.

One of the Perks

"While working toward that plan, Zimmerman is having an adventure getting to know her customers. (One of her most memorable clients: the guy who came in to have the word "slumlord" removed from his knuckles.) As she says, "Every tattoo has a story behind it."
